The relationship between Food and Mood. Can food really affect our emotions?

The answer is YES! This is a difficult time for the whole world right now, so anything to help pick me up or reduce some stress, im taking! Especially if it has to do with FOOD. This weeks Blog post is all about what foods can have an affect on our emotions and help lift us up when were feeling a little down or sluggish. Let’s dig in…

Salmon and Tuna

First up we have Fatty foods, such as salon and tuna – These are my favourite types of foods to eat when I feel like being healthy, but what are the benefits are eating fatty fish? Well, they contain a high amount of Omega 3, which can actually contribute to helping reduce depression.

Dark Chocolate

Now I have always loved dark chocolate, but let’s talk about what benefits it can actually have on your emotions. Dark chocolate contains sugar, which gives a quick source of release to your brain. It also has a sweet pleasurable taste that can lift your mood and make you feel happy. Milk chocolate contains way more sugars, so it’s best to stick to dark when you feel like a quick pick me up, it’s also better for the waste line 😉

Fermented Foods

Fermented foods such as kimchi and yogurt are great foods for lifting your moods, why? Because they are amazing for the gut, gut health is so important, not just for a healthy inside, but for a healthy mind and skin too! 90% of your serotonin is produced in your gut, a healthy gut can lead to a healthy mind.

Bananas

Turn that frown upside down with a banana. You might be wondering what can a banana do for my emotions? Well, they actually are a great source of natural sugar, vitamin B6, and prebiotic fiber, which work together to keep your blood sugar levels and mood stable. This can result in better moods and more energy!

Last up…

Oats

Now I LOVE a good bowl of oats in the morning with some berries, it’s my favourite healthy breakfast to have especially after a workout.

Oats provide fiber that can stabilize your blood sugar levels and boost your mood.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this weeks blog post and even learnt something you may not have known before.

See you the same time next week. E x
